Hill Country Futures was developed to support resilient farmers and resilient forages for the future.
The programme was led by Beef + Lamb New Zealand and ran for five years (commencing April 2018). This programme was funded by B+LNZ, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, RAGT New Zealand (formerly Seed Force New Zealand) and PGG Wrightson Seeds.
Although the programme was tailored to the unique challenges of hill country farming, many of its tools, resources, and insights are relevant to farmers across other regions and systems. Whether you're managing steep terrain or more moderate landscapes, the learnings from Hill Country Futures can help inform better decisions on-farm.
The programme ran until 2022 and brought together farmers, researchers, and industry experts to co-develop practical solutions. Its legacy continues through decision-support tools, farmer-led research, and science-backed resources that remain freely available to the sector.
