Farmer voice in environmental policy
The ERG is vital in helping test, co-develop, and advocate for farmer-focused, practical, and workable environmental policy solutions.

RMA Reform 2025/2026
On 9 December 2025 the Government released the legislation that will replace the Resource Management Act 1991.
Climate change
The red meat sector is committed to playing our part in addressing climate change and has already made significant progress. Climate change is a particular focus for B+LNZ – we support our farmers on-farm, we work with leading climate scientists and we advocate for emissions reduction targets that are science-based and fair.
Freshwater
Our sector is committed to improving our waterways and sheep and beef farmers have done a huge amount of work to protect and enhance freshwater health. We work to help farmers achieve positive outcomes and we advocate for practical and workable rules. Find out more about our work in this area.

Biodiversity
B+LNZ supports sheep and beef farmers to protect and enhance New Zealand's unique indigenous biodiversity. Farmers are passionate kaitiaki or guardians of the land, and B+LNZ's advocates for policies that enable farmers to protect and restore on-farm biodiversity within their farming systems.
Regional policy work
B+LNZ supports farmers throughout New Zealand on plan changes and other relevant consultations.

Animal welfare
New Zealand has an excellent reputation for animal welfare and some of the strictest animal welfare standards in the world.

Biosecurity
We work with industry groups and government agencies to help develop robust biosecurity policy, systems and standards.
