B+LNZ’s bottom lines on climate change policy

We know some farmers remain concerned about climate change policy settings that could affect the future viability of our sector. This week we emailed farmers with a further update on the critical issues we’re pushing the Government for action on. Our bottom lines are: NZ’s domestic methane targets must be amended based on no additional warming; any targets must not put our economy or rural communities at risk; the pricing of agricultural emissions must be taken off the table; and farmers must be able to choose whether or not they use new tools and technologies to reduce their emissions and we must step carefully through rolling out new technologies. Read the email online here.

New and improved B+LNZ event registration

If you’re registering for a B+LNZ event from this week on, you may notice a few changes. We’ve made event registration easier – you can now log in and your details will be remembered and pre-populated every time. You’ll be able to see what details we have on file and check they’re up to date. For more info about the changes and the real benefits of having a B+LNZ online account, check out last week’s e-diary story.

Sheep and beef farmer input sought for major survey

The Survey of Rural Decision Makers is the largest and widest-reaching survey of New Zealand’s primary sector. Topics include land use and management, future planning and succession, new technologies, regulations, and rural wellbeing. B+LNZ encourages sheep and beef farmers to participate to ensure a wide range of perspectives from across the agriculture sector. Sign up now and you’ll then be emailed a link to the survey in early June. To encourage new people to sign up, Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research is donating $3 to charity for each new commercial farm. For every business that completes the survey after signing up, an extra $12 will be donated to charity. This year’s charity partners are Farmers Adverse Events Trust, NZ Young Farmers, the Rural Support Trust, Rural Women, and Young Grower of the Year. In addition, everyone who completes the survey will go into a prize draw to win one of ten $500 supermarket vouchers. Sign up before 5pm on 30 May. More info here.
