Alongside her husband, Cat operates a 1400 acres sheep, beef and arable farm near Waikaka running around 2000 Romedale ewes, 50 Murray Grey stud cows and their progeny. They also run dairy beef, rearing around 240 each season, with 60 Friesian bulls sold in their first autumn and the rest have been taken through to kill weight. This year, they added 30 cashmere goats to their farm and say it’s been a hard first kidding season due to the persistent wet weather.
Cat’s role is primarily rearing the dairy beef calves, completing the office work and filling in on other farm work.
Growing up Cat didn't want to be a farmer, but things change, and Cat now embraces this life and says it is a great way to bring up her family.
Cat’s advice: Everyone must start somewhere, so don't be afraid to try something new and completely suck at it, that means there's plenty of room for improvement so keep going!
