Beef + Lamb New Zealand is proud to open nominations for the inaugural Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards and is encouraging people from along the red meat supply chain to enter or nominate people for one or more of the eight award categories.

B+LNZ’s CEO Sam McIvor says the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards will celebrate the people, the science, technology and innovation that makes New Zealand’s red meat sector world-leading.

“We are delighted to be opening nominations for these Awards which incorporate the sheep and beef industries, including dairy beef. It is the first time that the red sector has had an opportunity to showcase its excellence, to the industry and the wider public, through an event such as the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards.”

Mr McIvor also welcomed Farmlands coming on board as a platinum sponsor of the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards. Having such a high-profile and progressive organisation willing to partner with B+LNZ reflects the prestigious nature of these Awards.

Farmlands’ Acting CEO Kevin Cooney, says support of events such as the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards is about acknowledging the achievements of those who make a significant contribution to the red meat industry and the success and well-being of our farmers and their communities.

“Farmlands is thrilled to be the Awards Partner for the new Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards and be part of growing and developing the Awards to a premier event working with Award Category and Supporter partners."

Further sponsors will be announced in the coming weeks.

A progression from the successful Sheep Industry Awards, the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Awards were developed after extensive consultation with farmers, industry and agribusiness. They give individuals and organisations the platform upon which they can share the great work they have been doing within the red meat industry.

Mr McIvor says the Awards are an opportunity to share knowledge and information and foster excellence within our industry.

“They give us the chance to tell our story and celebrate an industry that forged our nation’s reputation as a producer of high-quality protein for the world.”

People can either enter themselves or nominate others in seven of the eight award categories. The Significant Contribution Award is by nomination only and recognizes an outstanding individual in the sheep and beef sector.

“I really encourage anyone working within the sector to consider either entering or nominating a person or organisation that has, or continues to, make a difference to the productivity, profitability, sustainability or well-being of our sector.”

The Award categories are, Emerging Achiever Award, People Development Award, Significant Contribution Award, Rural Champion Award, Science and Research Award, Technology Award, Innovative Farming Award and Market Leader Award.

Entries open 14 July and close 27 August. The winners will be announced at a Gala Showcase in Napier on 20 October.
