Farmers eager to grow their confidence, skills, and networks are invited to apply for B+LNZ’s nationwide Generation Next programme, designed to equip future farming leaders with tools to thrive in the industry.

Generation Next Programme

Applications are now open for the 2025 intake of the nationwide Generation Next programme. This initiative aims to develop and inspire the next generation of leaders within New Zealand's sheep and beef farming sector.

B+LNZ’s National Programme Manager Olivia Weatherburn encourages anyone wanting to take the next step in their farming career to apply.

“The programme has been a huge success. It initially started in the Southern South Island region, but with strong interest across the country and the B+LNZ Farmer Council recognising its value, it quickly became a nationwide initiative. It’s amazing to see the impact it’s had on participants’ personal and professional growth.”

“It’s not just about learning skills, it’s about building lasting connections, gaining confidence, and finding ways to tackle challenges in farming. Graduates often say it’s transformed the way they think about their role and their future in agriculture.”

“The workshops provide practical tools and knowledge that you can take straight back to the farm. From technology and genetics to mental health and decision-making, there’s something for everyone. I encourage anyone ready to take the next step in their farming career to apply – you won’t regret it.”

The programme consists of three workshops over a six-month period and there are 20 spaces available at six locations across the country.

Feedback from past participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many citing the programme as a turning point in their careers. “Participants have told us that it’s not just the knowledge they gain but the confidence and networks they build that make all the difference,” Olivia says.

The B+LNZ Generation Next programme keeps growing. In 2024, the Generation Next Alumni was launched, providing graduates with an ongoing platform to connect, collaborate, and continue learning with like-minded people from across the country. This alumni network is a testament to the programme’s success and its commitment to fostering leadership in the sector.

Applications close 14 February 2025.
