A new series of Pāmu Open Farm Days, being held later this year and early next, will focus on running profitable and efficient farming businesses as well as providing an opportunity to build connections and learn about initiatives and insights across the sector.

Justine Kidd, Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) General Manager Extension, says B+LNZ is connecting into and supporting Pāmu with these open farm days. “We know that farmers learn best from other farmers, so this is a fantastic way to see what Pāmu farms are doing to be more profitable and productive.”
Six Pāmu farms will be opening their gates and sharing their stories.
B+LNZ supports Pāmu’s willingness to open their farm gates and share stories of learning with their communities.
“Open farm days provide a highly effective way to share and engage. For farmers they are a perfect opportunity to talk with other farmers, see real time on-farm implementation of different management systems, and find opportunities to take home and work into their own business” says Justine.
Pāmu manages a network of 110 farms that operate across a broad mix of land types and classes. Sheep and cattle farming feature alongside dairy and deer farming, integrated farm forestry, and horticulture.
The Pāmu Open Farm Days will explore what it means to be profitable and efficient, an exemplar in employment, uncompromising animal welfare practices, and enabling environmentally sustainable pastoral farming.
Included in the series is support for New Zealand’s National Open Farm Day, held each year in March, which offers the public an opportunity to visit a farm and experience what goes on behind the farm gate. More information can be found on the Open Farms website.
