Take a break, try Surfing for Farmers

// B+LNZ

Surfing for Farmers is back for the summer, running in 25 regions across New Zealand and giving farmers the chance to swap gumboots for a surfboard. The initiative encourages farmers to take a couple of hours off farm each week, connect with others, and learn something new.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand (B+LNZ) is proud to be a Community Sponsor of this programme, which supports rural mental health by getting people off farm and into the ocean.

Jason Griffin, B+LNZ’s Extension Team Manager – North Island, says the popular initiative is more than just surfing.

“It’s been a tough spring with wild weather hitting many parts of the country, so taking time to recharge and have some fun is more important than ever. Surfing for Farmers is a great way to connect with your community and try something different.”

“Head along yourself, as a farm team, or pick up a mate that could value some time off farm connecting with others,” he says.

All gear and tuition are provided, and each session ends with a BBQ. Everyone on the farm team is welcome, and no experience is needed.
