Around 480 farming women from Southland and beyond gathered in Gore for the 2026 B+LNZ Southern Ladies Long Lunch, with tickets sold out in just 15 minutes.

Now a regular on the rural calendar, the event continues to attract strong demand from women wanting time to connect, share experiences and step off farm.
This year’s programme featured keynote speaker Hilary Barry, alongside a panel of Tara Dwyer (farmer, Landify Co-Founder, and Breeding Manager for Headwaters), Kate Faulks (farmer, and Ravensdown Director), and Charlotte Bell (farmer, and Founder of The Clip). They were also joined by B+LNZ Directors Kate Acland and Nicky Hyslop who shared some of their experiences along their journey to becoming a B+LNZ Director.
The line-up included a mix of personal stories and practical advice, with plenty of moments that resonated across the room and reflected the diverse roles women play in farming businesses and rural communities.
Christine Lewis, B+LNZ’s Extension Team Manager – South Island, says the continued demand shows how valuable these opportunities are.
“Events like the Ladies Long Lunch create a space where women in farming can take a breath, connect with others who understand the realities of rural life, and leave feeling re-energised,” she says.
“We consistently hear how important it is for women to have opportunities like this, not just for networking, but for genuine connection and support.”
Lewis says the sense of community on the day was clear.
“You see conversations spark between people who may not have met otherwise, ideas being shared, and connections forming that last well beyond the event.”
“That sense of belonging is crucial, particularly in an industry where people can feel isolated at times.”
Attendees enjoyed a shared meal alongside a programme.
