Calling on farmers to complete survey to find the real cost of FE
Whether your farm has been affected by facial eczema (FE) or not, we want to hear from you. B+LNZ is looking for farmers from all livestock sectors to help uncover the true cost of FE on New Zealand farms. The survey will take about 15 minutes of your time and all those who participate go into a draw to win a $250 Greenlea Meats voucher. Each response improves our understanding of FE’s financial impact on farms and across regions, ensuring future solutions are cost-effective and viable for you. Take the survey today and be part of the solution.
Podcast: B+LNZ-commissioned research on ag emissions approaches internationally
In early December last year, we released independent research by Macaulay Jones on international approaches to reducing agricultural emissions. The research found NZ is out of step internationally in key areas. Listen to an accompanying podcast where Jones talks to B+LNZ Climate Change Programme Manager Madeline Hall on the findings and implications from this work, and keep an eye out for further information as B+LNZ continues to make the case for changes to NZ’s climate change policies. Access the podcast here.
New Zealand Meat Board CEO appointment
The New Zealand Meat Board (NZMB) has appointed Nick Beeby as Chief Executive. Nick joined NZMB as General Manager of Quota & Information in 2021 and has been acting CEO since July 2024. He resigned as B+LNZ’s General Manager for Market Development in December 2024. The NZMB currently oversees $2.6 billion of red meat exports to the quota markets of the European Union, United Kingdom and United States, representing tariff savings of $934 million a year for the sector. The Board also administers significant farmer reserves held as a contingency fund to help New Zealand re-enter export markets in the event of a biosecurity incursion or disruption in quota markets. It allocates interest and dividends, after reserve expenses from this fund, in consultation with farmers, for industry good projects such as the Eliminating Facial Eczema Impacts (EFEI) programme.
