Farmer meeting about PC1 on 8 July

Farmers in the Waikato and Waipā catchments are encouraged to attend a Waikato Regional Council Plan Change 1 meeting organised by Federated Farmers, who B+LNZ have been running joint Environment Court proceedings on PC1 with for several years. Ministers Todd McClay and Chris Bishop will attend and there will be a chance to ask questions. The meeting is on Wednesday 8 July from 11.30am to 1pm, in the Gallagher Building, Gate 2, Mystery Creek. No RSVP required.

Connecting farms and schools – you can help

We’re strengthening links between schools and sheep and beef farms across NZ to support meaningful, real-world learning. You can help inspire and educate young people about their food and the farmers who grow it. You could host school visits on your farm or take part in Farmer Time for Schools which connects farmers virtually with NZ primary and intermediate school students. To register your interest, simply fill out our short questionnaire.

Have your say on NAIT levies

OSPRI is consulting on proposed changes to the levies that help fund the NAIT programme. These levies are currently collected either through the purchase of cattle ear tags or when cattle are sent to meat processors. This consultation is an important opportunity to help strengthen delivery of the NAIT scheme and ensure it remains fit-for-purpose. Consultation is now open and runs until 23 July. Visit the OSPRI website to read more about the proposed changes and make a submission.

Tackling facial eczema takes all of us

Seeing FE on your farm this season? Let’s build the full picture. What you’re noticing on-farm matters. The more farmers who share their FE insights, the clearer the national view, and the better the tools we can develop to manage risk. Add your input here. It’s quick, and it makes a real difference.

Help bring B+LNZ research to life

Do you enjoy learning through pictures, videos, or seeing things in action? Or know someone who does? We’re looking for a small group of farmers to help us create practical, easy-to-follow visual material about animal health challenges like FE and the science behind them. Your input will help us reach a wider audience. Keen to be involved? Get in touch by emailing [email protected]m

Women in farming wellbeing survey

Massey University and Lincoln University are running a survey on the health and wellbeing of women in farming across New Zealand. If you live and/or work on-farm, they would love to hear from you. It takes around 15 minutes, is anonymous, and you can enter a draw to win one of four $100 Swandri vouchers. At B+LNZ, we see this as an important opportunity to support rural women and ensure their experiences help shape future research and support. Complete the survey today.
