B+LNZ 2025 Annual Meeting wrap-up

At the B+LNZ Annual Meeting this week, held as part of the Out the Gate farmer event, attendees heard updates on achievements over the past year and what’s planned for the coming year. A resolution to increase directors’ fees was supported by a narrow margin, and the appointment of KPMG as auditor was confirmed. Read more in the media release.

Biosecurity levy rate change

B+LNZ has now collected enough funds to cover historic liabilities from the 2018 Mycoplasma bovis response. As a result, the biosecurity levy on beef cattle under the Biosecurity (Readiness and Response) framework will be reduced from $1.80 to $0.00 per head, effective from 7 April 2025. With the management of the M. bovis eradication programme now having transitioned to OSPRI under a National Pest Management Plan (NPMP), a new NPMP levy initially of 80 cents per beef cattle beast will come into effect on 1 June 2025 to fund the surveillance and other work needed to prove New Zealand’s freedom from M. bovis. Farmers are not required to take any action. If you have any questions, please email Dave Harrison, B+LNZ General Manager Policy and Advocacy.

NAIT for new PICAs

Are you new to NAIT, or need support to understand your obligations as a PICA (Person in Charge of Animals)? MPI On Farm Support, NAIT and Ospri are holding a small group meeting on Tuesday 15th April at MPI’s Office in Palmerston North to support new PICAs to understand your responsibilities and how to meet your NAIT obligations. You are encouraged to bring your devices and any questions you have about NAIT. Spaces are limited, but further meetings can be arranged if there is sufficient demand. Please email Claire Mills to secure your space, or if you would like further information.
