This week’s notices:

TB testing changes

TB in NZ cattle is now at very low levels, and most of the remaining risk comes from infected wildlife rather than other livestock. Because of this, testing in surveillance areas is changing. In low-risk surveillance areas, most herds are monitored through checks at slaughter rather than regular on-farm testing. As the programme moves closer to eradication, on-farm testing in these areas is now based on the risk for each herd, rather than blanket testing. For most farmers, that means their animals will keep being checked through routine meat inspection at slaughter. Some herds will still need on-farm testing if their risk is higher. If your herd needs a TB test, a TB tester will get in touch with you directly. This approach means less unnecessary testing while helping NZ stay on track to get rid of TB. You can find more information through this OSPRI factsheet and FAQs.

Update on environmental policy and other advocacy

This week we emailed farmers with another quarterly round-up of B+LNZ’s environmental policy advocacy, and other advocacy. It outlines some of the key areas we’re working in on behalf of farmers and what we’re advocating for. Read the email online here.

B+LNZ will be at National Fieldays

We’ll be at sites PD48 and PD50 in the Pavilion, showcasing the latest tools like nProve Tracker and Bella, and chatting to farmers about how our on-farm extension, research and resources are focused on enhancing profitability and productivity. See you there!
