This week’s notices:
Reminder about bird flu
You may have seen recent media reports about the H5N1 strain of avian influenza (bird flu) being detected in a migratory seabird in Western Australia. There are currently no confirmed cases in New Zealand, and the risk to human health remains low. However, for farmers and other landowners who may encounter wild birds on their properties, this serves as a useful reminder that if you see three or more sick or dead wild birds in a group, do not touch or handle them. Instead, report the sighting to the Exotic Pest and Disease Hotline on 0800 80 99 66. The Ministry for Primary Industries is monitoring the situation and has developed information resources, including a bird flu factsheet – see MPI's website.

Tackling facial eczema (FE) takes all of us
Seeing FE on your farm this season? Let’s build the full picture. What you’re noticing on-farm matters. The more farmers who share their FE insights, the clearer the national view, and the better the tools we can develop to manage risk. Add your input here. It’s quick, and it makes a real difference.
Help bring B+LNZ research to life
Do you enjoy learning through pictures, videos, or seeing things in action? Or know someone who does? We’re looking for a small group of farmers to help us create practical, easy-to-follow visual material about animal health challenges like FE and the science behind them. Your input will help us reach a wider audience. Keen to be involved? Get in touch by emailing [email protected]m
