Help inform our RMA thinking
As outlined in last week’s e-diaries, the Government is expected to introduce legislation to replace the Resource Management Act (RMA) soon. In advance of that, B+LNZ is seeking farmer input on key aspects of RMA legislation. This will allow testing of high-level thinking and help inform our work. We’ve developed a survey in conjunction with DairyNZ, which should take around 15-20 minutes to complete and which runs until 19 December. Find the survey here.
Sheep farmers invited to wool industry webinars
You’re invited to attend a Wool Alliance grower webinar on 10 December, where the Alliance will present its proposed new industry model and seek direct farmer input. This is an opportunity to hear how B+LNZ, Campaign for Wool NZ, Wool Impact and WRONZ are working together for NZ sheep farmers to enable a stronger and more profitable wool sector. Visit the Wool Alliance website here to learn more about the enduring model, and to register for a webinar.
Sheep traceability
Traceability is an important part of preparing to respond to devastating potential disease incursions such as foot and mouth disease. Several reviews have identified the need for improvements in the traceability of movements of sheep. B+LNZ and the MIA, with MPI’s support, are investigating options to phase out the use of paper and move to completely electronic systems for recording the movements of groups of sheep. The focus is on building on what already exists, keeping costs down and ensuring any transition is as smooth and straightforward as possible for farmers. We’ll keep you updated as this work progresses. For more info see this webpage.
Please complete our pest survey
Anecdotally, we’re hearing that afforestation, particularly carbon farming, is increasing issues with pests for neighbouring farms. We want to get more detailed info about this to inform our advocacy to Government. Please complete our survey – it should take less than 15 minutes and information about your experiences will help us understand changes in pest patterns and support our advocacy on issues like carbon farming, pest control, and forestry management.
Your input into farm safety
Farmers nationwide are invited to share their thoughts on health, safety and wellbeing on farm through Safer Farms’ survey. Your feedback will help identify what’s working, what’s not, and what support could make the biggest difference. Plus, you’ll go in the draw to win one of five great prizes! The survey closes 8 December. B+LNZ proudly supports Safer Farms’ mission to drive practical changes that prevent harm on farm.
