Rural Leadership Advancement Scholarship 2026 now open
B+LNZ is offering a $4,000 contribution towards a place on any Rural Leaders programme for six livestock farmers to advance their leadership skills and impact on the sector. Learn more and apply on B+LNZ’s website before 11 October 2026.
OSPRI levies
OSPRI has advised that the beef slaughter levy for M. bovis will reduce to 0.0 cents per head of cattle from 1 October. The M. bovis Programme is now in its final phase called ‘Confidence of Absence’, whereby testing continues to gather sufficient data to prove M. bovis is no longer present in the national herd. The bovine tuberculosis (TB) differential slaughter levies for cattle have been reviewed to ensure funding remains consistent with the TB Plan Funders' Agreement and reflects factors such as farm gate values and cattle slaughter volumes. The review has determined that each levy will remain unchanged, from 1 October, meaning farmers will continue paying the same levy on cattle slaughtered for the coming year. Current differential levy rates are: Dairy cattle: $14.50 per head and Beef cattle: $4.50 per head. These levies help fund New Zealand's TBfree programme, which is delivered through a partnership between industry and government to manage and eradicate bovine tuberculosis.
Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme applications open
Applications are now open for the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, which helps participants strengthen their strategic thinking, expand their networks and build the skills needed to lead positive change in the food and fibre sector. The programme runs over six months through a series of in-person workshops, making it easier to fit alongside work and family commitments.
