Final season of Sheep Poo Study – farmers needed nationwide
B+LNZ is calling on farmers from all regions to take part in the final season of the Sheep Poo Study. This research is helping build a clearer picture of how facial eczema (FE) affects farms across NZ and your farm could help complete the puzzle. World Iron Awareness Week (13–19 October)
Next week is World Iron Awareness Week. Alongside B+LNZ Inc, we’re using it as an opportunity to spotlight important statistics on iron intake and red meat’s nutritional value. Join the conversion by sharing statistics via the World Iron Awareness website. For those in Auckland, join the celebration at ParkRun Cornwall Park on Saturday 18 October for a free, family-friendly morning of running, beef burgers, live music, games, giveaways, and a chance to meet rugby star and Beef + Lamb Ambassador Stacey Waaka.
Ram nominations for the Sheep Progeny Test
Stud breeders are invited to nominate rams for the 2026 mating of the Sheep Central Progeny Test (CPT). Open to both Maternal and Terminal sires, the CPT underpins New Zealand’s sheep genetic evaluation. It creates genetic links, benchmarks sires, investigates new traits, and demonstrates the power of genetics. Nominations close Friday 21 November. More information and nomination form here.
Alliance Group vote
Alliance farmer-shareholders are encouraged to have their say on the proposed strategic investment partnership with Dawn Meats Group by casting their vote. Voting is open now and can be completed online via a link sent to shareholders from Electionz.com or by bringing a voting/proxy form to the Special General Meeting in Invercargill on 20 October. Please note corporate shareholders may have to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf at the meeting. If farmer-shareholders have not received their voting details from [email protected], they can contact [email protected]. Voting closes at 11.45am on 20 October.
Save the date: Farmer forum with Hon. Andrew Hoggard
Join us on Thursday 30 October from 3.30–5pm at the Cheviot Trust Hotel, North Canterbury. Take the time to come and have your say with the Honourable Minister Andrew Hoggard, Minister for Biosecurity and Associate Minister for Agriculture and Environment. Hear from Minister Hoggard as well as B+LNZ leadership. We will talk about topics impacting famers in his portfolio areas, followed by a Q&A session. There will be a chance for you to ask questions as well as networking with nibbles and refreshments after. More details soon.
