Running a successful farm is about more than production. Understanding your numbers and making good business decisions are just as important.
B+LNZ is looking for farmers from Wairarapa and Tararua who want to strengthen their financial skills, better understand their business, and make more confident decisions.
This Focus Group will help you understand your financial position and whether you’re on track to achieve your goals, work effectively with your bank, manage risk and identify opportunities to improve profitability and business performance.

What we'll cover
While the programme is structured, the content remains flexible to reflect the needs of the group. Planned workshops include:
- Understanding your financials, KPIs and benchmarking – and what it means to you and your business.
- Budgeting and forecasting for farmers - livestock flows, cashflows and variance analysis.
- Banking 101 - interest rates, risk margins, debt and capital structuring.
- Identifying and managing business risk.
- Farm investment strategies and opportunity analysis.
- Long-term financial planning and succession.
- Getting the best out of your farming team – understanding different personalities and motivators.
- AI and how we can use that to support our decision making and efficiency.

- Eight workshops over two approximately years.
- Small group learning with content tailored to the needs of the group.
- Workshops scheduled to suit the group where possible.
About the Focus Group
You'll join a group of farmers who are keen to improve their business skills and learn from each other.
The focus is on practical learning, real farm situations, and applying new ideas to your own business.

Cost
The programme is funded through the B+LNZ levy.
Your only cost is travel to workshops.
