Are you a passionate young farmer in Otago or South Canterbury?
This scholarship supports your growth in the sheep and beef sector through funding for training and development.
Objective
To celebrate excellence and promote career pathways for young individuals in the Central South Island sheep and beef industry.
What’s offered?
- Funding for learning and development.
- Recognition of three finalists.
- One overall winner awarded financial support.
- Mentorship and networking with rural professionals.
Eligibility criteria
- Aged 18–35.
- Actively involved/employed in the CSI sheep and beef sector.
- Located in Otago or South Canterbury.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the industry.
Application process
To apply or nominate a young farmer for funding, please email Dean Sinnamon at dean.sinnamon@beeflambnz.com to request an application form. Completed applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 19 September 2025.
What to include in your application
- Your 5-year career goals and how you plan to achieve them.
- Why you’re passionate about the sheep and beef sector in Otago or South Canterbury.
- What opportunities you see for the industry over the next 10 years.
- Your key strengths and areas where you’d like to grow.
- Challenges you’ve faced in your farming journey.
- A mentor who has made a meaningful impact on your career.
- A standout moment or success you’ve had on-farm.
- Training or development programmes you’d use the funding for (include estimated costs).
Ongoing support for the scholarship recipient
- Provide regular progress updates to the CSI Farmer Council.
- Deliver one in-person presentation to share your journey and outcomes.
- Receive mentorship from experienced council members.
- Connect with rural professionals, including bankers, vets, consultants, and more.
