Whether you are a dairy farmer, dairy support farmer or a beef finisher, you need to be aware that drench resistance isn’t just a sheep problem. Drench resistance to cattle parasites is now common throughout New Zealand. We need to be working towards farm systems that enhance production, reduce the impact of worms and are less reliant on drench.
We will work on answering some common questions:
- What are we going to do about worms in our young stock this summer/autumn?
- You’ve heard the mantra - ‘use the most effective product’ - what – when – how?
- Which type of drench should I choose and how will I know it’s working?
- We are now in an era where the ‘routine’ drench that has been used for many years can be letting significant numbers of worms survive – what’s can we do to reduce our reliance on drench?
- How can we avoid worms in our farm systems?
- What the hell is refugia?
- What should I be monitoring?
