B+LNZ Understanding Sheep Health Through Necropsy Workshop

sheep in a paddock

Join us for a hands‑on afternoon learning how to carry out a simple on‑farm sheep necropsy and build confidence in spotting key health indicators.

This practical session will help you refresh your understanding of what “normal” looks like and show you where to look for common diseases that impact flock performance.

Topics covered

  • Pneumonia.
  • Pleurisy.
  • Fluke damage.
  • Haemonchus (Barber’s Pole) anaemia / internal parasites.
  • Johne’s disease and other gut infections.
  • Clostridial diseases.
  • Salmonella.

Alongside your own questions, we will work through photos, samples, and real on‑farm examples.

Bring along a few kill sheets so we can dig into any patterns you’re seeing and explore what they might mean for your farm. If you come across any interesting or unusual organs before the workshop, you’re welcome to bring them along. Keep the organ or tissue clean, bag it separately (no full offal sets), freeze it, and defrost it the night before the workshop.

We will wrap up the afternoon with a BBQ and refreshments – a good chance to chat, compare notes, and round out the session.
