How to turn your unproductive marginal land into an reliable income stream using the emissions trading scheme.

Join us for a B+LNZ workshop, designed to help farmers explore the practical and financial benefits of integrating trees into their farm business.

This event is a collaboration between B+LNZ and Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service (TUR), to provide access to expertise so you can navigate your land use choice and ways to diversify your farm’s income.

Topics

Expect a knowledgeable, on-farm experience including:

  • Why and how marginal land fits into ETS farming systems – real experience from Geoff Crawford.
  • Costs, returns, and return on assets: planting, registration, and consultant fees.
  • Common pitfalls, legislation changes (LUC 1–6), and how to avoid expensive mistakes.
  • How ETS tables work under and over 100 ha, boundaries, drip lines, and carbon credits.
  • Practical discussions on erosion control, riparian planting, and farm resilience.

This field day will focus on supporting informed decision-making – not pushing a single approach. Whether you’re considering planting to diversify income or enhance farm productivity, this event will give you the insights to make the best choice for your farm.

What to bring?
