The B+LNZ Hub Farm programme led by Beef + Lamb New Zealand turns a working commercial farm into a practical learning site where farmers, trustees and rural professionals can see what good looks like in real time.

It blends science, data and local knowledge to lift productivity, profitability and environmental performance. This work matters because Māori agribusiness and wider sheep and beef farmers need proven, practical examples - not theory - to make confident decisions, strengthen governance, and improve long-term returns from their whenua.

About the day

  • The day begins with arrivals and coffee before a formal mihi whakatau to welcome everyone onto Pukepoto Farm.
  • The morning sessions introduce the farm’s history and whakapapa, followed by presentations from industry partners covering the Hub Farm programme, benchmarking, technology innovations, and livestock genetics.
  • A Q&A session allows discussion and shared learning.
  • After lunch, attendees head out for a guided farm tour visiting key sites to see technology in action, discuss ewe management, and view environmental initiatives.
  • The day concludes with final questions, agreed next steps, a closing karakia, and a chance to mix & mingle over a BBQ & refreshments.
