Join the Northern South Island Farmer Council at Mt Somers Station for its 2026 Annual General Meeting with a Beef on Dairy Field day to follow.
Annual Meeting
The afternoon will begin with your Northern South Island Farmer Council’s Annual Meeting in the station woolshed.
During the Annual Meeting, farmers will hear from Beef + Lamb New Zealand Chair Kate Acland, who will provide an update on the upcoming industry referendum, discuss the outlook for red meat markets, and share insights into the ongoing sheepmeat investigation in the United States.
Attendees will also hear from the local B+LNZ Extension team about upcoming extension opportunities and events available to farmers across the region in the coming year.
The Annual Meeting will run from 1pm to 2pm, followed by light refreshments.

Field Day
From 2.30pm, the event will transition into a field day showcasing several technologies currently being used in the Beef on Dairy system at Mt Somers Station.
Starting from the woolshed, we will hear about how Mt Somers has implemented auto-feeders in their calf rearing operation as well as both the Gallagher in-paddock auto-weigher and Halter collars on their beef-on-dairy bulls.
We will then set off to see the technology in action, stopping to see the bulls and the calf-rearing facilities.
Finishing off back at the woolshed we will hear from the Acland’s who will share the numbers behind the technologies and discuss how these innovations have impacted the farm system, including productivity, labour efficiencies, and management outcomes.
Connect, learn and see technology in action
This event is an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow farmers, gain industry insights, and see practical examples of technology adoption on a high-performing hill-country farming operation.
The event will end with a barbeque and refreshments with an opportunity to have a chat to your neighbours, Farmer Council representatives, and your local Extension team.
