Sam Gibson – “Sam the Trap Man”

Sam Gibson, better known as Sam the Trap Man, has built a loyal following through his authentic stories from New Zealand’s backcountry and his passion for conservation.
Growing up trapping in Te Urewera, Sam is now head bushman for the Eastern Whio Link project, leading a team of volunteer trappers using a combination of Mātauranga Māori and modern science to help protect New Zealand’s native whio.
A best-selling author, Gisborne District Councillor and father, Sam is known for his practical outlook, engaging storytelling and down-to-earth humour.
His tales from the bush offer lessons in resilience, problem-solving and perseverance that resonate just as strongly on the farm as they do in the backcountry.
