Rowan O’Connor will talk through animal nutrition and diet covering:
- The balance in the diet of protein and fibre
- Metabolisable energy and how much water is required for different feeds
- What supplements are available, and how you might feed them to different stock classes
Rowan has been involved in agriculture throughout his life, working with farming businesses to improve farm systems, productivity and profitability and growing up on a sheep and beef farm. Rowan’s approach combines practical farming experience with detailed technical and financial analysis. His work includes feed planning and nutrition, farm system design, stock policies, financial performance and strategic business advice, with a strong focus on developing practical solutions that farmers can implement on farm.
Wayne Allan, Allan Agricultural Consulting
Wayne Allan will take us through what to expect from the predicted El Nino, including:
- Changes that farmers have made farm systems more resilient over the years
- The different phases; preparing for the dry, managing it and recovering from it
- The importance of protecting your capital stock, selling surplus stock early, and the financial costs of feeds
Wayne Allan is a registered Agricultural Consultant based in Canterbury and working with sheep, beef and deer farmers through the South Island. With a strong technical and farm systems background he is helping farmers with strategic and tactical planning to build more resilient farming businesses and is increasingly involved in governance and succession.
