Muka Tangata is leading qualification development in a project supported by B+LNZ to ensure the industry gains and retains a talented workforce. We’re seeking input from sheep, beef and deer farmers.

The agriculture qualification development project will ensure people in the food and fibre sector have the skills they need to drive the production and productivity our sector and the country require.
Through the Agriculture project, Muka Tangata will review and develop qualifications, micro-credentials, and standards from Level 3 to Level 5 for agriculture industries including arable, dairy, sheep, beef, deer, pork, and poultry farming.
“Industry have made it clear that they want accessible pathways that support increased availability of skills-based training. We know that any development also has to be fit for purpose for those delivering training,” says Muka Tangata Chief Executive Jeremy Baker. “We will design meaningful and practical learning packages that will give people a taste of working in the primary industry sector, enable them to transition into the workforce, and continue to train and develop once there.”
B+LNZ is working closely with Muka Tangata on this project and wants to ensure we have a good representation of sheep and beef farmers voices at the tables of the following projects.
How to get involved in the future of training
To be involved in the Agriculture project advisory group, Muka Tangata needs farmers to attend online meetings. Meetings will be about 2 hours fortnightly, with other farmers, to ensure what is being proposed will work in a practical on farm sense.
If you are passionate about any of the following topics, please get in touch to join the advisory group covering that topic:
- Livestock – feeding, production, handling, health.
- Livestock breeding.
- Environment – land, water, feed production.
- Vehicles – basic maintenance and operations.
- Infrastructure – fencing, water systems.
- Health and Safety & Wellbeing.
- Arable.
