This week’s notices:

B+LNZ pleased to see options to address problematic RMA regulations on the table

Beef + Lamb New Zealand says it is good to see what the Government’s options are for addressing some of the Resource Management Act (RMA) regulations that are hugely problematic for sheep and beef farmers. Find out more here.

B+LNZ will be at National Fieldays in Hamilton

We’ll be at sites PD48 & PD50 in the Pavilion, showcasing the latest research and tools designed to help lift productivity and profitability on farm. Hear from Ginny from Wormwise about managing parasites, learn how we’re tackling facial eczema through the EFEI programme, and check out nProve – a simple tool to help you find rams and bulls with the right genetics for your farm business. And for a bit of fun – give our VR experience a go.

Got worms? Share your experience

Parasites and drench resistance are major concerns for farmers across NZ. B+LNZ is running a short survey to find out where more support and research are needed. We’ll also compare results with farmers in our Livestock Parasite Management (LPM) Group to see how the programme is working. If you're not in the LPM Group and can spare 20 minutes, please take the survey here

B+LNZ Lamb Survivability Focus Groups: Expressions of interest

B+LNZ is seeking sheep farmers passionate about lifting lamb survivability to join new focus groups. These groups of 8–12 farming businesses will meet three to four times a year to discuss real challenges and opportunities on farm. Limited spots are available locally – register your interest now.

Growing Future Farmers open days

If you're interested in becoming a farm trainer or taking your first step into a farming career, Growing Future Farmers (GFF) is hosting four open days across the country this June, along with an online session in July. Learn more on GFF’s website. B+LNZ proudly supports GFF as part of its commitment to developing people and capability in the sector.

Update on PC1 relating to Waikato and Waipā catchments

The Environment Court interim decision on Waikato Regional Council Plan Change 1 was released this week. The decision document is very long and complicated so it will take some time for B+LNZ and our lawyers to complete analysis of it. The decision covers a range of issues, from stock exclusion to farm plans to the use of Overseer, and it will have implications for all farming activities in the 1.1 million hectare PC1 catchment. Some farms will be required to comply with PC1 as early as the start of 2026 so we’ll keep farmers updated as we work through the decision, the final parts of the Court process, and the implications.
