Director elections are an important part of ensuring the B+LNZ Board represents the interests of farmers.

Four nominations – Jenny Boyne, Paul Crick, Sandra Matthews and Patrick Crawshaw – were received for the Eastern North Island.

George Tatham’s (Farmer Director – Eastern North Island) term will end at March 2023 annual meeting.

Meanwhile, two nominations – Andrew Morrison and Geoffrey Young – were received for the Southern South Island.

Morrison (Chair and Farmer Director – Southern South Island) is the incumbent Director for the district and is standing for re-election.

Candidate profiles and voting papers will be posted mid-February 2023 along with annual meeting documents. Election day will be Wednesday 22 March 2023 and conducted by postal and internet voting.

Seven farmer remits have been received for consideration for the annual meeting in 2023. The remits proposed and B+LNZ’s response will be included in the annual meeting voting pack.

To be eligible to vote, a livestock farmer must, on 30 June 2022, have owned at least 250 sheep, or 50 beef cattle, or 100 dairy cattle.

Livestock farmers owning at least the minimum number of livestock are encouraged to contact B+LNZ on 0800 233 352 or by emailing enquiries@beeflambnz.com to check if they are on the electoral roll or to get a voter registration form.

The electoral roll will close for postal voting at 5pm on Friday 20 January 2023. (Voters can register on the electoral roll after that date, any time before midday on 21 March 2023, and will then be able to vote online. Note that farmers are already on the roll if they previously received referendum and annual meeting material from B+LNZ, and don’t need to register.)
