Bull buying – how to make informed decisions when selecting your bulls
This Better Beef Breeding workshop, targeted at commercial beef breeders, will be facilitated by Amy Hoogenboom (BVSc).
Amy will help you get the best return on your investment this bull buying season, by giving you the knowledge and confidence to select bulls that fit your farm's objectives and shape your herd's financial performance in years to come.
A light lunch will be provided.
Key areas covered during this interactive workshop
- Setting breeding objectives.
- Understanding what is presented in a catalogue.
- Using genetic information to assess sale bulls.
- Using structural information to assess sale bulls.
- Practical component that allows you to compare bulls with different strengths in breeding values and put into practice the structural assessment scoring.
NOTE: please wear suitable clothing and footwear to go in the cattle yards on farm.
Also you are welcome to bring along any of your bull team data that you have.
