B+LNZ Tasman Community Post-Flood Session and Director Roadshow

Event category
Workshop

With our Director Roadshow already booked in, we’ve taken the opportunity to turn this event into a chance for the rural community to get together post-floods and hear from farmers who have been in the same boat.

July’s floods have had a huge impact on the region, particularly in our rural community, so here’s an opportunity to get off farm, not worry about cooking dinner, and hear from people who have been through it before.

This is also your chance to hear from and give feedback to B+LNZ Leadership and your local Director and B+LNZ Chair, Kate Acland.

Speakers

Kate Acland, B+LNZ Chair and Northern South Island Director

  • Hear directly from Kate about what B+LNZ is delivering for farmers under our refreshed strategy as well as how we invest your levies. We are also looking to hear your thoughts on whether we should consider changes to how levies are applied in future.

Sandra Faulkner, Federated Farmers National Board Member and Gisborne farmer

  • Following Cyclone Gabrielle, Sandra was the District Council Rural Coordination Lead for the Ag response and ongoing recovery phase. After the cyclone, Sandra spent days driving down the East Coast visiting farmers and connecting them with much-needed help, despite ongoing challenges with communications and infrastructure. Sandra will talk about lessons learned and advice for the Tasman community after the recent flooding.

Greg and Dansy Coppell, RePost Founders and local Tasman farmers

  • In the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle, Greg and Dansy’s company provided many Hawkes Bay farmers with support for their rebuilds. With the recent flooding on their own doorstep, they are here to share the things they learned from both Hawkes Bay farmers and more recently from their own community.

Rowena Hume, B+LNZ General Manager, Government Relations, Policy, and Communications

  • Rowena will take us on a deep dive into the RMA reform, and B+LNZ’s submission on national direction instruments, and to give an update on the Government’s recent biodiversity credit test pilot.
