Wildfire risk isn’t just a summer problem - fires can start any time of year. In this session, you’ll learn how to spot the signs, reduce risks, and protect your property, animals, and community. We’ll cover practical steps for safe outdoor activities, controlled burns, and how to check local fire danger.

Reducing the risk of fire in the rural landscape

  • Just because it isn’t hot and dry, doesn’t mean there is no fire risk.
  • Spot the signs, stop wildfire.
  • Know the risks and always check the local fire danger at checkitsalright.nz
  • If you live outside a city, whether it’s a lifestyle block or a rural area, there are steps you can take to reduce the risk of wildfires for yourself, your animals and your property.
  • Using outdoor equipment that generates heat or could create a spark? Check out how to minimise the risks of these activities.
  • Doing a controlled burn? Find out how to carry out your controlled burn safely to achieve your objectives, prevent fire from escaping, and minimise the risk of property damage and harm to others.
  • Around 97% of wildfires in New Zealand are caused by people’s activities.
