We are launching the B+LNZ Central Otago Parasite Integrated Management Focus Group, targeting 8 to 12 farming businesses which will meet three to four times a year.
Every farm in Central Otago has parasites (worms) within their system. For years we have used drench families to help combat the effects of worms on livestock performance. Now we are seeing more drenches failing and no new drench families being developed for the New Zealand market. Meaning we are going to have to look at our farm system if we are going to successfully fatten livestock, overcome parasite challenge and be profitable.
Just like RMPP this will be free for all levy payers. Will be run in conjunction with Andrew Dowling from PGG Wrightson/Wormwise facilitator.
What will you gain?
- Confidence to farm with parasites into the future.
- Understanding parasites.
- Knowing what causes the worm challenges on farm and how to avoid this.
- Look into your farm system about how to minimise the impact of parasites on livestock performance.
- Interaction with fellow farmers in similar situations.
