Join us on farm at Nithdale Station for a practical and engaging Ram Buying Workshop designed to help farmers make confident, informed decisions when selecting and managing their rams. Choosing the right sires is one of the most important investments in your flock’s productivity, and this session will arm you with the tools to make those choices count.
Jo Scott from Targeted Breeding will share her expertise on identifying structural soundness, genetic merit, and key traits that influence on-farm performance.
Lisa Roberts from Vetsouth will follow with valuable insights on ram health, including body condition, parasite management, and pre-tupping checks to ensure rams are fit, fertile, and ready for the mating season.
After the session from 4pm, we invite all to join us for a relaxed community BBQ and refreshments — an opportunity to come together after a difficult week of wild weather, power outages and significant damage.

How to interpret and utilize genetic data and selection indexes, when ram buying decisions.
- Understanding genotype vs phenotype
Understand the difference and the relationship when selecting rams. SHEEP nPROVE Be given an introduction of nProve. Be able to utlise the app to help select studs or rams that align with your properties breeding objectives.
- Hands-on practice
At the summary of the workshop a mock auction will happen to give attendees a chance to implement there new knowledge when selecting rams.
