This Better Ram Buying Workshop will provide sheep farmers with practical guidance on assessing genetic merit, using selection indexes, and implementing online tools such as nProve to make informed decisions when purchasing rams this sales season.
What the workshop will cover:
1. Establishing breeding goals
Learn how to identify what you want from your rams and what you are looking for in your flock genetics.
2. Understand ram catalogues
Gain the skills to interpret and utilize genetic data and selection indexes when making ram-buying decisions.
3. Understanding Genotype vs Phenotype
Understand the difference and relationship between genotype and phenotype when selecting rams.
4. Sheep nProve
Get an introduction to nProve and learn how to use the app to select studs or rams that align with your property’s breeding objectives.
5. Hands-on practice
At the end of the workshop, a mock auction will give attendees the opportunity to implement their new knowledge when selecting rams.
