Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s (B+LNZ) Te Pahu Monitor Farm continues to demonstrate how innovation and community collaboration can transform hill country farming. Farmers are invited to attend the next field day in August.

Located in the heart of the Waikato, the 326ha property run by Heather Gilbert and Elliot Kent is a part of the B+LNZ Monitor Farm (now called Hub Farm) programme.
The Hub Farm programme follows a single business’s change journey over 2-3 years, providing a venue for shared learning and showcasing real-time adaptation to regional challenges and opportunities.
Laura Davis, B+LNZ Extension Manager for the Mid Northern North Island – West says, “We have had great farmer interest in the Te Pahu Monitor Farm. Our recent field day had over 50 attendees gathered to learn how the farm’s adoption of a cell grazing system to intensify their 326ha property, improving pasture quality and profitability. We’re inviting farmers back to Te Pahu to get an update on the farms’ progress.”
Join us at Te Pahu in August
The next opportunity to visit the Te Pahu Hub Farm is coming up on Thursday 29 August, with another field day planned to showcase the latest developments and insights from the farm’s journey. Farmers from across the Waikato, Central Plateau, King Country, Hauraki, and Bay of Plenty are encouraged to attend.
“We’re excited to welcome farmers back to Te Pahu to see how Heather and Elliot’s system continues to evolve,” says Laura Davis, B+LNZ Extension Manager for the Mid Northern North Island – West.
The August field day will feature a mix of technical presentations, on-farm demonstrations, and opportunities for peer-to-peer learning. Final speaker details will be confirmed soon, but attendees can expect practical insights and take-home ideas to apply to their own operations.

Western North Island Hub Farm field day
For those located in Manawatū/Whanganui, the B+LNZ Western North Island Hub Farm is having a field day on 31 July.
After a strong start in April exploring fertiliser strategies, we’re heading back to Bevan Proffit’s farm to dig deeper into a critical driver of productivity: lamb survivability. This day is all about turning feed into performance – linking ewe condition, lambing success, and smart feed allocation to our shared goals.
