Government announcement on use of wool in public buildings

This week, B+LNZ welcomed the Government’s decision to encourage the use of wool fibre products in the construction and refurbishment of government buildings. B+LNZ Board Chair Kate Acland said the decision is great news for sheep farmers, the many thousands of people who work in the wool industry from shearers to wool processors, and rural communities across the country. The decision will help reinvigorate the wool industry, benefiting not just rural communities, but the New Zealand economy. Read B+LNZ’s media release.

Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment report on forestry

This week the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Simon Upton, released a new report examining the drivers of forestry in New Zealand. B+LNZ welcomed the report, which draws on B+LNZ analysis of afforestation rates and is heartening recognition of our advocacy efforts since 2019 about whole-farm sales into carbon forestry as a result of policy settings. With a rush to purchase farms and convert before new rules come into effect later this year, we continue to watch this issue closely. Read the Commissioner’s report here and B+LNZ’s media release here.
