Supporting a stronger future workforce

// Staff and training

B+LNZ’s people and capability workstream is dedicated to building a strong and sustainable workforce for the sheep and beef sector.

people and capabilities

Olivia Weatherburn, B+LNZ’s National Extension Programme Manager, says this work is all about building a thriving sheep and beef farming community by enhancing retention, fostering leadership, and celebrating success supported by robust training and education from day one to beyond year three.

“We can keep attracting people into our sector but if we don’t work behind the farmgate and ensure our work places are welcoming and places of growth and development, we won’t move forward at the pace we need to have a sustainable workforce to meet productivity demands,” she says.

People and Capability Farmer Reference Group (PCRG)

A key part of our approach is the People and Capability Farmer Reference Group (PCRG). This group of 12 farmers plays an essential advisory role by sense-checking projects and funding decisions with practical insights from on-farm experience. They also act as conduits to local farming communities, bringing in feedback and ideas. Find your local representatives on B+LNZ’s website
