Resource Management Act reforms

B+LNZ is representing sheep and beef farmers’ interests in the Resource Management Act (RMA) reforms process.

The Government is proposing to replace the RMA with new environmental management laws. Submissions on the exposure draft legislation have been sought as part of the select committee process.

Our initial analysis suggests there are fundamental flaws in the proposals.

Because what’s been released is so detailed and complex, and the submission period is short, B+LNZ will make a submission on behalf of sheep and beef farmers opposing the current Bills and focusing on key concerns.

The submission will be published here in February 2023. The submission period closes on 5 February but B+LNZ has received an extension to 19 February.

We have been in contact with other sector groups such as Federated Farmers and DairyNZ to ensure our positions are broadly aligned.

You can read more about the reforms on the Ministry for the Environment’s website – however, B+LNZ is not asking farmers to make their own submissions to the select committee.
