Orari-Temuka-Opihi-Pareora Water Zone Committee Draft Zone Implementation Plan Addendum

The Orari – Temuka – Opihi - Parerora (OTOP) Zone Committee’s Draft Zone Implementation Programme Addendum (ZIPA) has been released by Environment Canterbury (ECan). The draft ZIPA provides recommendations on the OTOP Plan Change 5 to the Canterbury Water and Land Regional Plan. These recommendations will help to guide Environment Canterbury in making rules for the four OTOP freshwater management units (FMUs).

ECan are inviting feedback on the draft ZIPA from 21 September 2018, and closing on 10 October 2018.

The ZIPA recommendations can be found on ECan’s website or downloaded from the B+LNZ website. 

The ZIPA contains quite specific recommendations on water allocation and minimum flow regimes for the Temuka and Opihi FMUs.

It also contains recommendations on nutrient allocation and management in ‘nitrate hot spots’ across the region.

Be heard by decision makers

Beef + Lamb New Zealand has provided feedback on the draft ZIPA and encourage farmers to do the same.
