New faces join Beef + Lamb New Zealand Board

Beef + Lamb New Zealand welcomes new faces to its Board of Directors with the election of two new Farmer Directors, an appointment of a new Processor-Exporter Director, and a new Associate Director.

Nicky Hyslop from Timaru has been elected to represent the Central South Island district, replacing sitting director Bill Wright from Cave. Mrs Hyslop received 4,832 votes while Mr Wright received 3,024 votes, making for a winning margin of 1,808 votes.

The voting return percentage for Central South Island was 21.09 percent. This represents 27 percent of sheep, 28 percent of cattle and 30 percent of dairy livestock numbers in the district.

Mrs Hyslop and her husband farm Levels Estate, an intensive sheep, beef, and arable property on the outskirts of Timaru.

Scott Gower from Ohura has been elected to represent the Western North Island district, replacing outgoing director Kirsten Bryant who did not seek re-election. Mr Gower received 5,996 votes, while the other candidate, Andrew Stewart from Marton, received 2,491 votes, making for a winning margin of 3,505 votes.

The voting return percentage for Western North Island was 16.33 percent. This represents 27 percent of sheep, 25 percent of cattle and 7 percent of dairy livestock numbers in the district.

Mr Gower and his wife farm High Glades, a 1,300 ha hill country sheep and beef property in Ohura in the King Country.

Tony Egan is joining the Board as a Processor-Exporter Director, replacing Sam Lewis. Mr Egan is the Managing Director of Greenlea Premier Meats and a member of the Meat Industry Association Council.

Anna Nelson also joins the Board as an Associate Director, taking over from Kate Acland. The role of Associate Director is appointed on a one year basis. Mrs Nelson is currently working as a co-ordinator for King Country River Care Incorporated, farms a 1,100 ha breeding and finishing property, and was part of the Kellogg Rural Leadership programme.

B+LNZ’s Chairman Andrew Morrison has extended his congratulations to the successful candidates as well as the outgoing directors.

As a farmer-led organisation, their participation in the governance of Beef + Lamb New Zealand is vital to ensure we continue to deliver for our sheep and beef farmers,” says Mr Morrison.
