Earthquake recovery; one month on

Nearly one month on from the devastating North Canterbury/Kaikoura earthquake, B+LNZ is continuing to work with TeamAg to meet the needs of affected farmers.

Kelvin Whall, who is leading the organisation’s earthquake response, urges anyone who either needs – or can offer assistance – to contact B+LNZ regional extensional manager Sarah O’Connell on 033 570 693 or 0274 968 496.

He says there is a large team of volunteers, many with specific agricultural skills, willing to assist farmers as they work to get their homes and businesses back together, so people should not be afraid to ask for help.

Looking ahead, B+LNZ have convened an expert technical group to support land and pasture recovery.

Whall says this group will include the key disciplines of geotech, soils, land remediation, and pasture. It will link to a coordinated extension and communications process for farmers in the earthquake region.
