The Red Meat Profit Partnership (RMPP) is rolling out computer training for farmers nationwide.
There are two levels:
- Getting Started – this course is for absolute beginners and takes you through everything you might need to know, from turning on the computer to setting up emails and using the internet.
- Using Farm Data – this course is for people who already have basic understanding of how to use a computer. You'll learn about Excel, using a farm case study to find out how to develop a stock reconciliation and partial financial budget. And you'll get acquainted with some of the farm management tools that are around.
The courses are 8 hours in duration, spread over half days or evenings.
The pilot
The computer courses were trialled last year with groups of farmers on the North Island's East Coast. The participants were overwhelmingly positive about what they'd learnt and said they experienced benefits within days of completing the course.
