B+LNZ’s thoughts with rural communities in Nelson and north-western Queensland

Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s (B+LNZ) Chairman Andrew Morrison says the thoughts of New Zealand’s sheep and beef farmers are with rural communities in both Nelson - who have been impacted by the Pigeon Valley fire - and those in north-western Queensland following the recent heavy flooding there.

“Farms are especially vulnerable to disasters like fires and floods, and not being able to help your livestock in situations like this is one of the most difficult things a farmer has to deal with,” says Mr Morrison.

“In north-western Queensland in particular, where they’ve first battled five years of drought and now devastating floods, the scenes have been difficult to watch. Many farmers have lost all their livestock and it will take years to recover.

“The thoughts of Beef + Lamb New Zealand and our sheep and beef farmers are with rural communities in Nelson and north-western Queensland, and we applaud the efforts of those responding to the events.”
