It is wonderful to see the demand is still there amongst chefs to put their beef and lamb dishes forward to be assessed to receive the highly coveted gold plate.
Of those who have applied in the last month, around 60 restaurants are new to the Excellence Awards having never applied before, which indicates how it has evolved to keep up with the changing dining scene and is still seen as relevant to chefs around the country.
There is also growing interest from restaurant guests that are keen to know the origin of their meat and chefs, more than anyone, love to tell the story of the provenance of their New Zealand grown beef and lamb.
Growth areas this year for entries have been in Canterbury and Taranaki, so don’t forget to check out the Excellence Award restaurant directory to find a restaurant near you proudly displaying their gold plate.
