B+LNZ South Otago Farming for Profit Field Day: A flocks future – how much wool?

Event category
Field day

About the day

Are you weighing up the costs versus the opportunities with wool, and wondering where to from here?  We have four speakers discussing their views on the direction farmers could be taking their flocks fleece – pursuing a full wool sheep, looking at a sheep that is bare around the points, or going all the way to a shedding/haired sheep.

Come along and hear their stories of what they've done and answer any questions you have for the future of your flock.

  • Becks Smith – Maniototo Farmer and Vet, who with her husband Jason, started putting shedding rams over their commercial flock in 2019. Hear about their journey and learnings.
  • Dr David Scobie – A Lincoln University lecturer and former AgResearch scientist, offers his views on an easy-care sheep for the future.
  • Kate MacDonald – Founder of Davaar & Co, shares her journey of starting up a venture to add value to their wool clip.
  • Hadleigh Smith – from NZ Merino talks about the opportunities in the pipeline for strong wool.
